Managing Diversity in a Multicultural Workplace (MDC)
Session Topics

MDC develops the basic skills which lie at the heart of human interaction, allowing managers to motivate the diverse workers with whom they're presented.

The course addresses:


  • Personal Skills – Self awareness, self management and goal setting
  • Interpersonal Skills – Effective and supportive communication; motivating others; conflict resolution
  • Group Skills – Teamwork; team leadership; and building effective teams
  • Specific Skills - Conducting meetings; training, coaching, counseling
  • Customer Service Skills – Developing specific behaviors and strategies which lead to outstanding service
  • Diversity Skills - Cultural understanding; breaking down stereotypes; respecting and celebrating cultural differences

Each session provides participants with the following:


  1. Topic and objectives – Setting the stage
  2. The survey – Diagnostic surveys offered at the start of each session which serve as a baseline for students, so they know where they're starting and can measure improvement
  3. The textbook – Mandatory readings, with suggestions for further reading
  4. Course supplements – Other material, prepared by AHA, designed to reinforce and deepen students' understanding
  5. Lecture presentations - Some sessions include PowerPoint-enhanced lectures created by AHA.
  6. Discussion forums – Perhaps the heart of the course, MDC students are required to interact with each other by posting and responding in each session's forum
  7. Assignments – Eight mandatory written assignments, the parameters of which are carefully outlined in the session guide
  8. The AHA Moment – A short, thought-provoking exercise which instills and reinforces that session's topic. An AHA signature!
