Managing Diversity in a Multicultural Workplace (MDC)
Overview The Managing Diversity in the Workplace Certificate (MDC) was developed for current and future professionals who want to move up the ladder, or are looking for that first management position. The MDC is offered totally online, enabling 24/7 access from anywhere in the world. The 15-session course is facilitated by American Hospitality Academy's international faculty. The MDC's objective is simple: to increase participants' abilities to understand, develop and practice the most important managerial skill there is - achieving specific objectives through working with people. That's a goal simply stated but not easily achieved. Your workers are not a homogenous group, and your approach to managing them must reflect that truth. It would be natural to want a recipe for approaching the culturally diverse workplace – an answer key to get you through every situation and interaction. Sorry. This doesn't exist. People and contexts differ, and one size most definitely does not fit all. The AHA's approach combines an understanding of individual differences with the development of key management skills, so that a manager or prospective manager develops core skills and principles applicable to many different situations. We recognize that managers require a foundation of organizational, technical and administrative skills. But this is not the focus of the MDC. We seek, rather, to develop the basic skills which lie at the heart of human interaction, allowing managers to motivate the diverse workers with whom they're presented. |
